Q:  I have been trying decline bench presses to try and get my lower pec's to fill in more. What can I do? Is there a better way of doing this? Thanks, Tim

A:  Hi Tim, I'm Sorry to be the one to say this but there is no way to "shape" a muscle. It all comes down to genetics. Magazines will tell you exersise "A" will do this and exercise "B" will do that.. They do this because they need to sell magazines, If they publish the same article month after month there is no need to to keep buying the magazine. All you can do is lift smart, eat right, put the effort in and pray that your parents passed on good genetics.. Good luck.. W

Q:  How come you can not build muscle while you are with a calorie deficit BUT with enough protein + fat stored in your body?

If you are around 20% bf for example it means the body has enough energy stored to supply the body for growth; for example, if you have a 500 calorie deficit, but you are lifting weights and getting enough protein intake wouldn't the body get that 500 calorie deficit from the fat, 500 calories which would be used to build the muscle used in the workout therefore increasing muscle size + muscle strenght while decreasing fat?

Please keep in mind this isn't based on anything but my logic and i just want to get this cleared out.

thanx

A: Hello and thank you for you question, I'll try and answer this the best I can. Our bodies we're made for survival. And to do this we store fat for enegy so when we need it its there. Fat is needed for basic organ function and things like hair.. Muscle is expendable so our body would rather use muscle that it can live with out and spare the fat for when we need it.  I hope that makes a little more sense..
